Traffic-jam cardiac emergency in Kerala: Two nurses save driver's life with timely CPR

Ernakulam: In a remarkable act of humanity and professional commitment, two nurses saved the life of a man who suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while driving during a traffic jam in Kerala's Ernakulam district. The nurses, who were travelling in a passing bus, immediately rushed to the victim, administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and played a crucial role in saving his life.

The incident occurred near Perumbavoor on the busy MC Road (Main Central Road) in Ernakulam district. According to reports, the victim, identified as Sinaj, a middle-aged resident of Perumbavoor, was driving his car when he suddenly experienced severe chest pain amid slow-moving traffic and lost consciousness. His vehicle came to a halt on the road, triggering panic among commuters and bystanders.

A bus passing through the area was carrying two nurses, identified as Aardra and Anjali. Responding to requests for help from local residents, the two immediately got off the bus and rushed to the scene. After checking the victim's pulse, they suspected that he had suffered a cardiac arrest and promptly began administering CPR.

Eyewitnesses said the nurses continued chest compressions while instructing bystanders to call an ambulance and clear the road for emergency access. Within minutes, an ambulance arrived and shifted the patient to a nearby hospital, where doctors said the timely CPR had been instrumental in saving his life.

Doctors noted that the first few minutes following a cardiac arrest are critical and that the victim's chances of survival would have been significantly lower had CPR not been administered immediately.

The incident has drawn widespread appreciation from local residents, who praised the nurses for their presence of mind, courage and professional dedication. Their photographs and videos also went viral on social media, with many users hailing them as "real-life heroes."

Health experts said the incident highlights the life-saving importance of CPR and stressed that basic CPR training for the general public could help save countless lives during medical emergencies.
