Bhatkal: One man was killed and another sustained serious injuries after a motorcycle crashed into a roadside tree in Bhatkal, police said on Sunday.

The accident occurred around 11:45 pm on Friday on Bandar Road when the motorcycle allegedly went out of control and hit a tree. The deceased, Madhur Manjunath Naik, was riding as a pillion passenger. Both he and the injured rider, Sumed Narayan Naik, were residents of Belke village in Bhatkal.

Sumed Narayan Naik was initially rushed to the Bhatkal government hospital with serious injuries and later shifted to a private hospital in Udupi, where he is undergoing treatment.

Police have registered a case against the rider for rash and negligent driving based on a complaint lodged by a relative of the deceased. Further investigation is underway.
