Nashik: In a tragic road accident, nine members of a family were killed after their car plunged into a water-filled well in Maharashtra’s Nashik district, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Friday night in the Dindori area of the district.

According to sources, the victims were travelling in a Maruti Ertiga car and were returning from a family function when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the road and fell into a nearby well filled with water.

The impact of the accident was severe, and the vehicle got completely submerged, leaving no chance for the occupants to escape. All nine persons, including six children, died due to drowning.

On receiving information, local residents and police rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation during the night. The vehicle was later retrieved from the well and all bodies were recovered.

Preliminary investigation suggests that the accident occurred after the driver lost control of the vehicle. Officials said drowning was the primary cause of death.

The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area, with locals describing it as one of the most tragic accidents in the region in recent times.

Police said further investigation into the incident is underway.
