Bhatkal: With suspected measles cases on the rise in Bhatkal taluk, the health department has convened a task force meeting to review the situation and intensify preventive measures.
Officials said cases have increased since March, particularly in urban areas as well as Jali and Heble. The meeting stressed the need to curb the spread of the highly contagious disease and enhance public awareness.
In a press statement, the health department urged people to seek immediate medical attention if they develop fever with rashes and warned against ignoring symptoms due to the risk of complications.
Patients have been advised to remain in isolation for at least four days after the onset of rashes and follow necessary precautions. Authorities also reiterated that the measles-rubella (MR) vaccine is safe and effective, urging parents to ensure timely vaccination of their children.
Measles is referred to as ‘ghor’ in the Nawayathi language spoken in Bhatkal.
