Foundation stone laid for ₹5-crore Gurubhavan in Bhatkal; minister Vaidya highlights teachers’ role in nation building

Bhatkal: Uttara Kannada district in-charge minister Mankal S. Vaidya laid the foundation stone for a Gurubhavan building in Bhatkal, to be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹5 crore along Sagar Road.

Addressing a programme at the auditorium of Guruvidyadhiraj Pre-University College, organised by the Government Employees’ Association and the Gurubhavan Committee, the minister highlighted the pivotal role of teachers in shaping the nation’s future. He said educators are responsible for moulding children into responsible citizens and continue to enjoy immense respect and trust in society.

Referring to the long-pending project, Vaidya said the land for the Gurubhavan had been allotted during his earlier tenure as MLA, but construction could not commence for several years. With work now underway, he expressed hope that the upcoming Guru Vandana programme would be held in the new building.

He said the state government has sanctioned ₹50 lakh for the project, while the remaining funds will be mobilised through contributions. Urging teachers and stakeholders to extend support, he said the project should be viewed as a collective effort akin to building one’s own institution.

Earlier, Government Employees’ Association president M.N. Naik said the long-cherished dream of teachers to have a dedicated Gurubhavan is finally becoming a reality. He thanked the minister for facilitating the project and appealed to the teaching community to contribute towards its completion.

Tahsildar Nagendra Kolashetti, Block Education Officer Venkatesh Naik, Block Resource Coordinator Poornima Moger, and Block Congress president Venkatesh Naik were among those present.

On the occasion, meritorious students—children of government employees—who excelled in the SSLC and PUC examinations were felicitated, and the minister along with several achievers from various fields were honoured.
