Mangaluru: The district administration has imposed a 61-day ban on mechanised fishing activities in territorial waters (up to 12 nautical miles) of Dakshina Kannada from June 1 to July 31.

All mechanised boats using nets and vessels above 10 HP are prohibited during this period. However, traditional fishing boats and small motorised boats up to 10 HP are permitted.

Authorities warned that violations will attract penalties under the Karnataka Marine Fisheries Act, 1986, including disqualification from subsidised diesel for one year.
