Bhatkal: More than 20 passengers, including five from Bhatkal taluk, were injured after a private bus travelling from Bhatkal to Bengaluru overturned near Allanki Factory Cross in neighbouring Honnavar taluk of Uttara Kannada district on Sunday night.
The accident occurred around 9:30 pm when the bus, which had left Bhatkal at about 8:30 pm and was heading to Bengaluru via Honnavar and Sagar, overturned near Allanki Cross after covering nearly 60 kilometres. There were 29 passengers on board, of whom more than 20 sustained injuries.
Suresh Kanya Gowda (36) of Gundabala in Honnavar taluk, along with his wife Asha Suresh Gowda (31) and their two-year-old daughter Bhoomi Suresh Gowda, sustained serious injuries. They were shifted to Manipal after receiving initial treatment at the Honnavar Government Hospital. Their three-year-old son Shreyan Suresh Gowda also suffered injuries.
The other injured include Mohammad Minam Syed Mehboob (28) of Murdeshwar National Colony in Bhatkal taluk, Suchitra Vitthal Naik (22) of Haduvalli, Praveen Manjappa Naik (27), Pooja Irappa Naik (21) of Sabbatti and Annapurna Narayan Kharvi (28) of Bhatkal Bandar.
Others injured in the accident are Narasimha Gowda (25), Uma Suresh Mesta (28), Joyce Rocky Rodrigues (25), Priyanka Krishna Varnekar (25), Gayathri Narayan Gowda (22), Nivedith Harish Naik (26), Soumya Prabhakar Hegde (23), Sandhya Gajanan Hegde (26), Manoj Pandit (24), Suresh Soumya Naik (35) and Subramanya Achari (25), all from Honnavar and nearby areas.
Some of the injured were discharged after receiving first aid, while others are undergoing treatment.
A case has been registered at the Honnavar Police Station.
