Bhatkal: Uttara Kannada BJP has claimed that sustained efforts by MP Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri and the party's campaigns in support of farmers have prompted the Karnataka government to initiate maintenance of rain gauge stations that had reportedly remained neglected for the past three years.

In a statement, Uttara Kannada district BJP media spokesperson Sadanand Bhat said the lack of maintenance had affected the implementation of weather-based crop insurance schemes and delayed compensation to farmers. He said the government's decision to invite tenders for maintaining the equipment was a result of pressure exerted by the BJP.

The party urged the state government to ensure regular upkeep of the rain-measuring devices and safeguard farmers' interests.

Referring to the recent Murinkatte issue in Bhatkal, Bhat welcomed the decision taken following discussions between MP Kageri and the district administration, stating that it would help maintain peace and respect the sentiments of the Hindu community.

He also criticised Congress leaders for targeting the BJP and called on them to focus on development and communal harmony in the district.
