Bhatkal: The Bhatkal Town Police have registered a case against two individuals from Mangaluru who allegedly attempted to deceive the judiciary by submitting fake Aadhaar cards while seeking bail for robbery suspects lodged in Bhatkal jail. The incident occurred on Wednesday at the Additional Civil Court and JMFC Court in Bhatkal.
According to police sources, the accused have been identified as 37-year-old Soma Shetty, a resident of Ullal near Mangaluru, and 30-year-old Vasu Sapalya, a resident of Belthangady.
It may be recalled that about a month ago, Bhatkal Rural Police had arrested three suspected members of the notorious "Garuda Gang" in connection with an attempted robbery near Bilalkhand Cross on Sagar Road. Two other accused had reportedly managed to escape. Soma Shetty and Vasu Sapalya appeared in court on Wednesday in an attempt to secure bail for the arrested individuals.
Sources said that while court staff were verifying the Aadhaar cards attached to the bail applications, both men suddenly fled the court premises. Upon verification, the Aadhaar cards were found to be forged.
Following the incident, the Bhatkal Town Police registered an FIR against the absconding duo and launched a formal investigation.
