Stray dog menace in Bhatkal: SIO submits memorandum to Tahsildar, demands urgent action

Bhatkal: Amid rising incidents of stray dog attacks in Bhatkal taluk, panic and fear have gripped the local population. Responding to the growing concern, the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), Bhatkal Unit, submitted a memorandum to the Tahsildar, expressing deep concern over the increasing number of injuries caused to school children and demanding immediate action.

In its memorandum, SIO stated that over the past few days, more than 15 people — including school children and senior citizens — have been attacked by stray dogs in residential and market areas of Bhatkal. The injured have been administered anti-rabies vaccines, leading to heightened anxiety among residents, especially parents.

Speaking on the occasion, SIO’s Media Secretary Mashaikh Talish urged the authorities to launch an urgent sterilization drive to control the stray dog population. He also called for the identification and relocation of aggressive dogs, the setup of a helpline or local contact center for reporting dog attacks, and collaborative monitoring involving Panchayats and the municipal council. Additionally, he demanded timely administration of anti-rabies vaccines and first aid to victims.

Talish further stated that SIO is ready to cooperate with the administration to address the issue in both a humanitarian and lawful manner.

Among those present during the submission of the memorandum were Zayaan Bangali, Mohammed Ghitreef Manvi, Sabiq Barmawar, Umar Abdul Azeez, and other members.
