Senior Army officer assaults SpiceJet staff at Srinagar airport; FIR registered

New Delhi — A senior Army officer allegedly assaulted four SpiceJet ground staffers at Srinagar airport on July 26 after being asked to pay for excess cabin baggage. One staff member suffered a spinal fracture, while others sustained serious injuries, including jaw and facial trauma. A video of the assault, showing the officer attacking employees with punches, kicks, and a queue stand, has gone viral on social media.

SpiceJet said the officer was carrying 16 kg of hand baggage—more than double the allowed limit—and forcefully entered the aerobridge without clearance. The airline has lodged an FIR and initiated steps to place the passenger on the no-fly list. It has also submitted CCTV footage to the police and written to the civil aviation ministry seeking strict action.

SpiceJet condemned the violence and vowed to pursue legal action to its full extent.
