New Delhi: NHAI to Compensate Toll Operators for Losses from FASTag Annual Pass Scheme

New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced on Friday that toll contractors will receive compensation for a three-month period to offset reduced revenue caused by the newly introduced FASTag annual pass for private, non-commercial vehicles, which came into effect on August 15.

According to the highway authority, a uniform compensation system has been worked out for both ongoing tolling contracts and bids invited during the next three months. “After this period, once the usage data of annual passes at each plaza is available, the figures will be shared with bidders in future tenders. Thereafter, no compensation will be provided,” the NHAI clarified.

The calculation of compensation will be based on the number of cars, vans, and jeeps passing through toll gates under the scheme, with actual transaction data sourced from NPCI via IHMCL.

The FASTag annual pass, priced at ₹3,000, allows non-commercial vehicles to make up to 200 toll plaza crossings in a year. It can be purchased through the Rajmargyatra app or the NHAI website and gets activated within two hours of payment. The scheme currently covers around 1,150 toll plazas across national highways and expressways.

For the financial year 2024–25, NHAI reported toll collections amounting to ₹72,931 crore.
