Mumbai: At least 21 people lost their lives across Maharashtra during a fresh spell of heavy monsoon rains between August 15 and 19, following a relatively dry July.
Officials from the State Emergency Operations Center at Mantralaya confirmed that the deaths occurred in rain-related incidents, including floods, drowning, electrocution, house and wall collapses, and landslides. Ten others sustained injuries in similar mishaps during the same period.
The torrential downpour also damaged standing crops on nearly 12 to 14 acres of farmland, adding to the distress of farmers already facing weather-related uncertainties.
Among the worst-hit areas was Mukhed in Nanded district, where four people were killed and another person reported missing is feared dead.
In response, the Indian Army has been deployed to assist the district police and revenue authorities in managing rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected regions.
