Karwar: Uttara Kannada DC urges citizens, including children, to update Aadhaar free of cost

Karwar: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner (DC) K. Lakshmi Priya has urged the public to take advantage of the government’s facility allowing free Aadhaar updates, including address change and mandatory biometric updates for children, available until June 14, 2026.

Speaking at the district-level Aadhaar progress review meeting held at the DC office on Wednesday, she said that individuals who obtained their Aadhaar cards more than ten years ago and have not updated their residential address can submit valid proof of their current address and update it free of cost through the portal myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in.

She further stated that Aadhaar updates for children who have completed five years and fifteen years since their Aadhaar enrolment will also be carried out free of charge at all Aadhaar service centres across the district.

The DC instructed that Aadhaar Seva Kendras functioning in post offices and banks across the district must operate efficiently and ensure uninterrupted service to the public. She added that any technical issues should immediately be reported to the District Aadhaar Counsellor so that no citizen faces difficulties related to Aadhaar enrolment or corrections.

She also directed officials to reach out to Endosulfan-affected individuals, bedridden patients, and elderly citizens at their respective homes to facilitate Aadhaar updates, ensuring they are not deprived of essential government benefits.

The DC instructed the Department of Education to organise cluster-level camps for updating Aadhaar details of all school-going children in Karwar and Sirsi educational zones.

During the meeting, the DC informed that Uttara Kannada district currently has 16,65,285 Aadhaar cards issued, out of which 15,68,157 have been seeded with mobile numbers. She ordered officials to take necessary steps to complete mobile number seeding for the remaining cards at the earliest.

She also directed the police department to ensure that no unauthorised Aadhaar enrolment or correction centres operate anywhere in the district, and strict vigilance should be maintained.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sajid Mulla, Additional Superintendent of Police Krishnamurthy, Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary Prakash Halammanavar, Aadhaar Regional Centre Manager from Bengaluru Mohammed Musab, District Aadhaar Counsellor Mahabaleshwar Desai, and officials from Lead Bank and the Postal Department.
