Karwar: One dead, three injured in bike–scooter crash

Karwar: A 15-year-old boy was killed and three others sustained serious injuries in a road accident involving a motorbike and a scooter near the RTO office in Karwar on Thursday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Chiranjeev Brahmananda Kunji, a resident of Idagunji in Yellapur taluk. According to sources, he had been living with his mother in a rented house in Majali. The accident occurred while he was travelling towards Karwar on Thursday evening.

Police said a Bullet bike ridden by students of a medical college rammed into the scooter from behind near the RTO office, killing Chiranjeev on the spot.

Local residents immediately alerted the police and shifted the injured to the district hospital in an ambulance.

Chiranjeev’s mother, along with the medical college students involved in the crash, sustained serious injuries and were later shifted to a private hospital in Goa for advanced treatment, officials said.

Soon after the accident, District Superintendent of Police Deepan M.N., accompanied by other senior police officials, visited the spot and conducted an inspection to ascertain the cause of the crash.

A case has been registered at the Karwar Traffic Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
