International Badminton Tournament to Begin in Mangaluru on October 27; CM Siddaramaiah to Inaugurate

Mangaluru: Mangaluru is set to host an international-level badminton tournament for the first time, titled “Mangaluru India International Challenge 2025.” The event will be inaugurated by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on October 27 at the Urwa Indoor Sports Stadium.

Preparations for the grand event are in full swing. A review meeting was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Darshan H.V. to oversee the arrangements. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that since this is the first-ever international sports event in the district, all arrangements must be made to the highest standards, ensuring no lapses in execution.

He directed officials to provide adequate accommodation, food, and medical facilities for athletes arriving from across India and abroad. He also instructed that all technical aspects of the sports complex be properly managed and that necessary facilities be arranged for players and referees.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that parking arrangements have been made at the Urwa Market Stadium, and beautification work is being carried out along the Lady Hill–Urwa Market road. The Mangaluru City Corporation has been instructed to ensure proper sanitation and waste management during the event.

Furthermore, he said a cultural and tourism exhibition centre will be set up to showcase local heritage and tourism opportunities during the tournament. The Tourism Department has been directed to make necessary arrangements for players or guests who wish to visit nearby tourist attractions.

The Health Department has been asked to establish a medical centre at the stadium and deploy doctors specializing in sports medicine.

The review meeting was attended by Deputy Police Commissioner Mithun H.N., Smart City MD Santosh Kumar, Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Ravichandra Naik, and District Badminton Association
