Mangaluru: A group of Hindutva activists on Saturday illegally entered into a private school and created commotion against the school for teaching special Arabic classes for students along with other foreign language classes.

The incident occurred at St Thomas Aided Higher Primary School at Padu Bondanthila near Neermarga in Mangaluru taluk on Saturday morning. 

As per the sources, they snatched Arabic text and note books from the children and warned the Arabic teacher against visiting the school in future. They also videographed the students including Muslim girls using mobile phones without their permission.

Anand Shetty a local leader of Sri Rama Sena, justified their act stating that they raided the school owing to the complaints that Arabic and Urdu languages were forcibly taught in the school.

Melwyn Braggs, the head master of the school rubbished the allegation of forcibly teaching Arabic and Urdu to all students. “In fact we never taught Urdu. That’s a lie. We teach German, French and Arabic only to the interested students. Normally Muslim students learn Arabic. No one is forced to learn it,” he clarified.

A tense atmosphere prevailed in the village for sometime after the incident. However, no complaint was filed against the miscreants. Police visited the school and took charge of the situation.
