Bhatkal: Dr. Sahan S. Kumar (39), a gynecologist who previously served at the Bhatkal Government Hospital, was found dead by suicide in a hotel room at TT Nagar, Bhopal, on Saturday.

A native of Tenkamijar village in Moodbidri taluk of Dakshina Kannada district, Dr. Kumar had worked at the Bhatkal Government Hospital between 2021 and June 2024. He was most recently employed at a private hospital in Balaghat, Madhya Pradesh.

According to media reports, Dr. Kumar had traveled to Bhopal to attend a counseling session organized by the Madhya Pradesh Medical Council. However, before the session could take place, hotel staff discovered him hanging in the bathroom after he failed to open his room until noon. No suicide note was found at the scene.

Police recovered two mobile phones, an earphone, and a bag from the room. Investigators are examining call records to determine whether he contacted anyone prior to the incident. The body was sent for post-mortem examination before being handed over to his family in Moodbidri for the final rites.

Speaking to the media, TT Nagar Police Inspector Gaurav Dohare said the doctor had recently gone through a divorce and was suspected to have been under mental stress, which may have contributed to the suicide.
