Bhatkal: A one-day food safety training camp was organized on Thursday at Tanzeem Hall on Siddiq Street, Bhatkal, by the Food Safety and Drug Administration, Uttara Kannada district, in collaboration with the Food Safety Training and Certification Centre. The workshop aimed to spread awareness on food safety practices among stakeholders from hotels, canteens, bakeries and other food-related businesses.
According to the organisers, the training was conducted in two separate sessions—morning and afternoon—with around 100 participants in each session, making a total of 200 participants. Attendees were trained on food safety standards, hygiene protocols, safe food handling practices, storage procedures, and licensing requirements mandated under FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) guidelines. Certificates were issued to all participants upon completion of the training.

The programme commenced at 10:30 am with Bhatkal Taluka Health Officer Dr. Rahila Sana Patel inaugurating the event by watering a plant. Tanzeem President Inayatullah Shabandri presided over the function, while General Secretary Abdul Raqeeb M.J. Nadvi, Bhatkal Taluka Training Coordinator Shams Naveed Sunderi, Uttara Kannada District Coordinator Manoj Nayak, and staff members from the Global Institute and the Food Safety Training and Certification Centre were present.
Deepa Shankari, trainer at the Food Safety Training and Certification Centre (Government of India), delivered an in-depth presentation on food safety rules and FSSAI regulations. The programme was compered by Raghavendra Shetty, State Head of the Global Institute, who emphasized in his address that “All food business operators (FBOs), whether small or large, must obtain the required licence or registration.”
The camp concluded around 5 pm.
