Bhatkal: A five-year-old boy from Jali in Bhatkal, Prateek Ravindra Naik, is fighting for his life after being diagnosed with hyperacute liver failure and hepatic encephalopathy grade III. Doctors at Aster CMI Hospital in Bengaluru, where he was initially admitted on June 21, have recommended an urgent liver transplant (LT) to save his life.
According to a clinical summary issued by Dr. Ashritha A., consultant in pediatric hepatology and liver transplantation at Aster CMI Hospital, the child was admitted for suspected Wilson’s disease, though no signs of chronic liver disease were found. Despite undergoing two sessions of plasma exchange (PLEX) therapy and being placed on continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), his condition has not significantly improved.
According to hospital estimates, approximately ₹25 lakh is required for the liver transplant and further treatment.
Unfortunately, the child’s father, a daily wage laborer, is unable to bear such a heavy financial burden. Left with no other option, he brought his son back to Bhatkal and admitted him to the government hospital.
Dr. Surakshit, a pediatric specialist at the government hospital in Bhatkal, has warned that the child needs immediate advanced care. “Time is critical — any delay in treatment could lead to a further deterioration of his condition,” he said.
In this critical moment, the boy’s family has appealed to the general public, philanthropists, and charitable organizations to come forward and help save the child's life.
