Bhatkal: A fisherman died after slipping and falling into the Arabian Sea while preparing to leave for fishing. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday at the Mavinkurve port in Bhatkal taluk.
The deceased has been identified as 40-year-old Shankar, son of Santamma Naik, a resident of Kaikini Modakeri Basti. According to the complaint, Shankar Naik was attempting to board his boat, which was anchored at the harbour, late at night for fishing when he lost his footing and fell into the sea. As he could not come out of the water, he drowned and died on the spot.
On receiving the information, personnel from the Coastal Security Police and the 112 ERS police rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. Police have registered a case in this regard, and further investigation is underway.
