Bhatkal: A woman lost her life in a tragic accident in Belur village of Bhatkal taluk after she slipped and fell into a well while returning home from the fields.

According to sources, Vimala Manjunath Naik (54), who worked as an agricultural labourer and a cook at a school, had gone to the fields around 5 pm on December 1 to cut grass for her cattle.

It is learnt that while returning home with a bundle of grass on her head, she accidentally slipped and fell into a ground-level well located in the field of a local person, where she drowned.

Her body was recovered from the well on the morning of December 2 at around 7 am. Following the incident, the deceased woman’s son, Subramanya Manjunath Naik, filed a complaint at the Murdeshwar Police Station stating that it was an accidental death.

Murdeshwar Police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
