Bhatkal: The Bhatkal Town Police have arrested a man who had been absconding for nearly 30 years in connection with an Arms Act case, police said on Thursday.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Javed Hameed Kazia (55), was wanted in Crime No. 74/1996 registered under Sections 3 and 25(1)(A) of the Arms Act. He had failed to appear before the court after the case was registered in 1996 and remained at large since then.
Acting on technical and intelligence inputs, a special police team traced and apprehended the accused in Mumbai on January 7. He was produced before a court on January 8, which remanded him to judicial custody, police added.
Senior police officers commended the Bhatkal Town Police team for successfully tracing the long-pending warrant accused.
