Bhatkal: One fisherman died and another is missing after a fishing boat capsized off the Murdeshwar coast in the taluk on Thursday.
According to sources, four fishermen on board had ventured into the Arabian Sea for fishing at around 5:45 am when the boat was struck by high waves and overturned. All four were thrown into the sea. While two managed to swim to safety and reach the shore, the remaining two were swept away.
Local fishermen immediately launched a rescue operation and managed to pull one of the victims from the sea. He was rushed to the government hospital but was declared dead on arrival. The deceased has been identified as 50-year-old Madev Narayan Harikanth.
The second fisherman, identified as 27-year-old Venkatesh Anappa Harikanth, remains missing, and a search operation is currently underway to trace him.
A case has been registered at the Murdeshwar Rural Police Station, and further investigation is in progress.
