Bhatkal: A six-year-old boy was killed on the spot and four others sustained injuries after a car overturned near Sirsimakki, close to Sirsi, on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Amanullah Saudagar, a resident of Kasturba Nagar in Sirsi.
According to police, five members of the same family, all residents of Kasturba Nagar, were travelling in the car at the time of the accident. Four others, including the boy’s parents Mohammad Ali Saudagar and Shirin Banu, were injured and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
It is learnt that Mohammad Ali Saudagar is a teacher at Darus Sunna School, while his wife Shirin Banu is also employed as a teacher at an English-medium school in Shiroor, in neighbouring Udupi district near Bhatkal. The family was travelling from Shiroor to Sirsi following the school holidays.
On receiving information, Sirsi Rural Police rushed to the spot, conducted an inspection, and registered a case.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
