Bengaluru: In a significant development, a special court designated for cases involving public representatives has found Prajwal Revanna—former Hassan MP and grandson of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda—guilty in a sexual assault case filed at the KR Nagar police station.
The verdict was delivered on Friday by Special Judge Santosh Gajanana Bhat. The court is expected to announce the quantum of punishment on Saturday.
The case involves allegations made by a 48-year-old woman who was employed as domestic staff at the Gannikada guest house in Hassan, which is linked to the Revanna family. The woman accused Prajwal Revanna of sexually assaulting her and further claimed that he had recorded the act on his mobile phone.
Following an investigation, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed a chargesheet against Revanna under multiple sections, including Sections 376(2)(k) and 376(2)(n) of the Indian Penal Code—relating to rape committed by a person in a position of authority and repeated rape of the same woman—as well as Section 66E of the Information Technology Act, which deals with the violation of privacy through digital means.
According to the prosecution, the assaults took place in 2021 at two separate locations—one at Revanna’s residence in Hassan and another at his residence in Bengaluru. The investigation listed 113 witnesses, and the trial proceedings were completed on July 18.
Prajwal Revanna is currently facing charges in multiple cases involving sexual assault, which surfaced after several objectionable videos allegedly depicting him with different women were leaked online. The first formal complaint against him was registered in April 2023.
