Awareness drive in Bhatkal highlights dangers of cybercrime and drug addiction; SP Deepan stresses discipline and vigilance

Bhatkal: An anti-drug awareness campaign and awareness program against cybercrime was held in Bhatkal, where Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepan M. N. attended as the chief guest.

In his address, the SP emphasized the importance of discipline among the youth, stating that “the first step towards success must begin today.” He explained the growing menace of cybercrimes and cautioned that online fraud cases are rapidly increasing, with offenders using fake identities to befriend victims and extort money. He shared real-life examples to make students and the public aware of such threats and advised them to stay alert.

Speaking on drug abuse, SP Deepan said addiction often begins when a person feels disinterested or frustrated with life. Substances such as cigarettes, alcohol, and marijuana may seem harmless initially but gradually lead individuals toward destruction. He urged the youth to stay away from bad company and choose companions who inspire positive change.

Maulana warned, “If we remain silent, society will continue to deteriorate. The fire is already burning — it’s time now to try to extinguish it.”

The session was presided over by Anjuman Vice President Mohammed Sadiq Pilloor, while College Principal Yousuf Kola concluded the event with a vote of thanks.

Students raised several questions during the session, which SP Deepan answered satisfactorily.
