Bhatkal: Police raided a guest house in Murdeshwar of Uttara Kannada district in the early hours of Friday and rescued two women allegedly forced into prostitution, while arresting one person in connection with the case.
According to police, acting on credible information received at around 12:45 am on February 20, a team led by CPI Jagdish Hanchanal and PSI Hanumanth Biradar of Murdeshwar Police Station conducted a raid on a guest house located on Shettarkeri Road in Murdeshwar.
During the raid, two women were rescued from the premises. Three male customers found at the spot were also detained for inquiry. The accused has been identified as Suresh Nagappa Naik (43), a room boy and resident of Heradi in Kaikini village of Bhatkal taluk.
Police said the accused allegedly lured women with the promise of higher monetary gains and accommodated them at the lodge to run a prostitution racket.
Articles found at the spot were seized, and a case has been registered against the accused under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956.
The rescued women were later sent to a government-run rehabilitation and counselling centre (Santwana Kendra) in Bhatkal for care and further assistance.
