Karwar: A tragic incident was reported from Dandeli where an 18-year-old youth drowned while bathing in the Kali River. The deceased has been identified as Nawaz, a resident of Gandhinagar area in Dandeli.

According to sources, on Thursday afternoon Nawaz had gone with his friends to the confluence of the river near the Moulangi area. While bathing, the water flow suddenly intensified, due to which he was swept away by the strong current and was unable to come out, resulting in his death.

Upon receiving information, the police, with the assistance of the Forest Department, Fire Brigade personnel and rescue teams, launched a massive search operation. After several hours of search in the deep waters of the river, Nawaz’s body was recovered in the evening.

The body has been sent for post-mortem examination as part of legal formalities, and the police are conducting further investigation.
