Aligarh : A Renowned Islamic scholar and the former president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Dr. Abdul Haq Ansari passed away on Wednesday at around 3.30pm at his residence at Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh due to heart attack. He was 81 years old.
He was unwell from quite some time, and was back to his homeland after spending sometime in USA. His close relatives were in America at the time of his death.
Dr. Abdul Haq was born on September 1, 1931 at Tamkohi, Deoaria, at Uttar Pradesh. His father was Alimuddin Ansari. He Studied Arabic, Philosophy and history and obtained his B.A from Aligarh Muslim University, in 1957. He pursued higher studies in philosophy and obtained M.A. (Philosophy) from Aligarh Muslim University in 1959. He did his Ph.D. (Philosophy) from Aligarh Muslim University in 1962. He also obtained a Masters Degree, M.T.S. (Comparative Religion and Theology), from Harvard University in United States of America in 1972.
He was teaching philosophy in various universities and engaged in various academic activities for a long time. He has served as lecturer at Shanti Niketan and Aligarh University.
He undertook many research works at Jamia Islamia Umme Darman, Sudan, UPM University, Tehran and Imam Muhammed bin Sawood Univesity, Riyadh.
He has been the member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind from his high school days in 1952. He had served as the president of Jamaat from2003-2007.
He has published many books in Islamiyat and was indulged in writing and publishing works till his last breath.
Founder of Islamic Academy and was a member of Member Markazi Majlis-e-Shoora.
The deceased has left bind a wife, along with four daughters and a son.
The last rites will be performed at 9.00 am tomorrow morning. Many dignitaries from the Jamaat will be leaving to Aligarh to attend the funeral.
