New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today said the bandh call given by opposition parties to protest hike in diesel price and FDI in multi-brand retail did not have any impact in the city and expressed gratitude to Delhiites for not responding to it.

"People of Delhi are mature enough to understand the ill effects of bandh. They are not at all interested in creating any such situation leading to disturbance in law and order and normalcy," she said.

The Chief Minister said people did not respond to the bandh call as they knew the political parties were trying to derive mileage out of a "non-issue".

"The attitude of Delhiites have remained constructive. They keep themselves aloof from the efforts of political parties to derive political mileage out of any non-issue," she said.

Delhi BJP claimed the bandh was a "total success".

The national capital saw a mixed response to the bandh call given by NDA, Left parties and UPA supporters SP and JD(S) as some markets remained closed while movement of vehicular traffic was normal though protesters blocked traffic in some areas.

Private schools, shops and businesses establishments were shut in a number of areas while government-run schools, colleges, offices and banks and Delhi Metro functioned normally.
