Tension after group clash over alleged cow slaughter
Belgaum: Tension prevailed for some time in parts of the city as two groups belonging to two different communities attacked each other and pelted stones forcing police to resort to lathi charge to disperse the warring groups.
Police said the trouble started after news about alleged cow slaughter in a lane, spread activists of Hindu Sanghatana attacked the area pelting stones. The other group in the lane retaliated leading to tension in the area.
Police have taken into custody 25 people of both groups and the situation was stated to be under control.
Patrolling has been intensified.
