Bangalore: Two days after a similar incident in forests of Dakshina Kannada district, the Anti Naxal Squad of Karnataka police exchanged fire with suspected naxalites between Kalkunda and Cheru in deep forest area, about 300 km from here, in the early hours of Wednesday.
Additional DGP Bipin Gopalakrishna confirmed the incident here and said at least one of the insurgents seemed to have received grievous injuries.
However, no one from the ANF was injured in the incident.




The encounter ensued after about six to seven insurgents fired at the ANF party which was combing the area.
The naxals had fired more than seven rounds and the ANF men retaliated but the naxals fled the scene carrying the injured.
ANF Chief Alok Kumar has rushed to the spot.
