Honnavar: In a tragic incident, 3 students of the Smt. Kamala & Sri Venkappa M. Agadi College of Engineering & Technology, Laxmeshwar, Gadag District were drowned at Apsarkonda beach near Honnavar today morning. All of them were engineering students who had come to the Apsarkonda for the college tour on early hours of Monday. Though the locals warned them not to venture into the sea due to high tides, they neglected the warnings and got dragged by the strong currents.

The deceased have been identified as Chetan from Haveri, Shushanth from Laxmeshwar and Viresh from Badami.

According to sources, two of the bodies were found at 2 pm today with the help of local fishermen and Manki taluk youth. Whereas the third body was also found near the sea after a long search, at around 5 pm in the evening. Police officials said that the bodies would be handed over to the respective families after the post-mortem was conducted. Coastal security CPI Shivprakash Naik and other officials visited the spot.

The students had started their NSS camp tour from Gadag on 25th October, and had reached Apsarkonda today morning after travelling Kollur, Shingeri and other places. There were altogether 42 students and two lectures, informed Sachin, a close friend of Shushanth.
