Bhatkal: In a tragic accident, which took place on the eve of Eid-ul-Adha, three members of a family reportedly lost their lives by drowning at Kodi beach of Kundapur.
The deceased have been identified as Syed Mohammed Kodi (62), his brother Abdul Khader Kodi (58) and a boy named Raihan (10).
It was told that all the three were swimming at the Kodi beach, when a strong current washed off a boy named Raihan into the sea. In an attempt to save the boy, Syed Muhammed and Abdul Qadir both rushed into the high tide and went quite far in the process, which made them very difficult to get back to the shore. Yet another person named Muhammed Arif, who was present on the beach, when he saw three of them drowning, immediately rushed for their rescue. But unfortunately even he was caught into the high sea tides. Looking at the scene, many locals and swimmers who were present on the beach went forward to help all the drowning people.
Muhammed Arif was rescued first, and later Syed Muhammed and Abdul Qadir were brought up. All the three were immediately rushed to the local hospital nearby, but Syed Muhammed and Abdul Qadir both gave up on the way to the hospital. However, Arif was saved.
The sad news brought sensation to the entire town and a huge crowd gathered at the Kodi beach where the search operation of the boy Raihan was being carried out. The body was recovered from the sea late at night at around 11.45 am.
It is said that all the deceased were the natives of Kodi. Syed Muhammed was a Businessman at Mangalore, whereas his brother Abdul Qadir was settled in Bangalore. Raihan was the son of sister-in-law of Syed Muhammed and stayed at Honnaver. The three of them had been to the beach for an outing on account of Eid-ul-Adha.
