Karwar: Members of Ginddive Yuvak Sangha submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Imkongla Zamir here on Wednesday, demanding establishment of government medical college at district headquarters Karwar.

-The medical college approved for the district headquarters should be set up in Karwar only. The government should not bend to political pressure and shift the college to other places in the district. Besides being the headquarters of Uttara Kannada district, Karwar houses many vital instillations including Kaiga power plant and Sea Bird naval base.

People working in these institutions need immediate medical treatment in case of accidents and emergency. Moreover, the local people have to rush to hospitals in Goa, Manipal or Mangalore in case of emergency. But as these places are far off from Karwar, there are chances that the health condition of the patients may deteriorate on the way-, the members said in the memorandum.

-If Primary & Secondary Education Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri intends to set up a medical college in Sirsi, then let him go ahead with the plan and establish an additional medical college in Sirsi. But let him no obstruct the establishment of the college in Karwar-, they said and warned of launching a stern protest in case their demands are not fulfilled.

Yuvak Sangha Treasurer Shreedhar Gunagi, Shashikanth, Kiran, Sainath, Vinayak, Devidas, Dileep, Prashant and other were present.
