Gulbarga: Fifteen people were killed on the spot and six others seriously injured when a Jeep in which they were travelling collided head-on with a Lorry on Jevargi-Bijapur Road today, some 70 kms from Gulbarga.
Police said the victims, hailing from Haranur village in Jevargi taluk, were returning after attending the funeral of one of their relatives at Mandewal, when the mishap occured. Police are trying to retrieve bodies struck in the jeep due to impact of the collision.
Twelve of the victims were identified as Yellappa Sharanappa (40), Savitri Yellappa (35), Shankarappa S. Sapadala (50), Yemanappa C. (30), Nagappa Huliappa Chenagundi (45), Fakrappa Huliappa Chenagundi (50), Aiyamma B. Mudanur (55), Avvamma S. Mudanur (35), Chanappa Pujari (50), Siddappa Pujari (30), Lakshmibai Doddayellappa Gogi (50), and Shankarappa Chennagundi (35).
The six injured persons, whose condition was said to be critical were admitted to the Government General Hospital in Gulbarga city.
A case has been registered in Nelogi police station.
