Bhatkal: Demanding an immediate repair of National Highway 17 which is now called as NH 66, Social worker Fayyaz Mulla has submitted a Memorandum to the Assistant Commissioner of Bhatkal.
Talking to Assistant Commissioner, he said that the condition of the roads in Bhatkal, Honnaver, Kumta has gone from bad to worse. Hundreds of vehicles travel back and forth on National Highway 17 by carrying passengers daily. The deteriorating condition of the roads is encouraging serious accidents. He added that travelling on the road here is like inviting death.

He said that National Highway has got worse over time causing many accidents because of which deaths on the road are on rise and people are travelling putting their precious lives on stake.
"Due to pathetic road conditions, ambulances from Karwar, Ankola, Kumta and Honnaver take long to reach the Mangalore and Manipal hospitals and we have noticed that many patients have died because they did not reach the hospital in time," - he said.
He urged Assistant commissioner to take the authority on task and force the concerned administration to become active and take steps in repairing and maintaining highway. Social worker Irshad Data and others were also present on the occassion
