Bhatkal: The Bhatkal Tanzeem has intensified its follow-up procedure against the Kannada Daily Kannada Prabha which had published a false report regarding Bhatkal with the intention of defaming the name of Bhatkal town in the entire country and also agitate various communities against the Muslims of Bhatkal. A delegation of Tanzeem met the Bhatkal MLA JD Naik with the request of raising the issue of false reporting in the assembly as an opposition. The Tanzeem also requested him that he provides his full support to the Tanzeem in case it goes forward for the ‘Bhatkal Bundh’. It should be known that with the support and the cooperation of the Tanzeem, Mr. JD Naik had been elected as the MLA of Bhatkal for the second time.
Under the leadership of vice president of Majlis-e-Islah-o-Tanzeem Mr. SM Parvez, the GS Mr. Mohiddin Altaf Kharuri initially presented the report of the Kannada daily in front of Mr. JD Naik and expressed the feelings of Bhatkali people about it. He further told him that the Muslim community is highly disturbed due to such a baseless and false report. He also informed him that the head of eight committees in Bhatkal had protested against the issue on 10th of September and had also presented a memorandum to the additional SP demanding the immediate legal action against the reporter who had published such a report. Later, on 18th of September the Tanzeem delegation had also been to Karwar to meet the district SP and the Deputy Commissioner with the same demand. But since the state is ruled by the BJP, the district administration has not taken any steps regarding the issue so far. Further, Mr. Altaf Kharuri pressurized Mr. JD Naik that he raise the particular issue in the forth coming assembly session, and also put forward the question that if the particular nine-ten places which were marked by the Kannada daily as the danger zones were really dangerous and even the police could not enter them, then why is the government silent regarding this? And if the published claim is false, then why any actions are not being taken against the particular newspaper and the reporter who had published the report.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. JD Naik expressed his views about such false reporting in the news daily and said that the present day media is losing its charm in the society and the people no longer have any trust in them. The media is not carrying out the role the way it should. He said that the case should be filed in the court against the particular newspaper and also the complaint should be registered with the Press Council of India.
Mr. Syed Mohiddin Barmawer informed that all the paper works have been made ready to file the case against the newspaper and the case will be filed within the next two to three days from all the eight committees separately. But since the court procedure is a long one and it goes on for a long term, he said that on that basis the Tanzeem even wants the police to investigate the case and arrest the concerned person along with them going for the court procedure simultaneously, so that the other reporters take a lesson from the incident and do not dare to publish such filthy reports in future.
Mr. JD Naik assured that he would certainly raise the particular issue in the Belgaum session which is to be held on 11th of October, and also that he would provide his full support to the Tanzeem in case of Bhatkal Bandh.
After the meeting with MLA JD Naik, Mr. Altaf Kharuri addressed the press persons. He said that the Tanzeem delegation had been to Karwar and arranged for a meeting with the District SP and the DC with the demand of arresting the concerned press reporter, but the response they received from the officers was unsatisfactory. Looking into this they have decided that they would go forward with intensifying their protest and observe the Bhatkal bandh in the first week of October. He said that they have also sent a request to the Bhatkal Citizen’s Forum to support them in making the bandh successful. Tanzeem wants even the non-Muslim brethren to participate in the bandh along with the Muslims to make it much effective, and also wants them to strengthen their ties with Tanzeem. Mr.Altaf informed that the case will be filed against the concerned reporter on first of October in the Bhatkal court. All the eight committees will file their separate cases in this regard and all the preparations have been done for the . He further said that the Tanzeem will also file the case against the concerned newspaper in Press Council of India.
