Karwar: The Karwar rural police traced a woman who had abandoned her baby at a kiosk opposite Veera Ganapati temple at Amadalli village in Karwar taluk on Tuesday.

Jana Shakthi Vedike President, Madhav Nayak, who had admitted the baby boy to the District Hospital in Karwar, had lodged a complaint with the police.

During investigation, the police found that a 21-year-old woman from Toduru village was the mother of the abandoned baby. She confessed that she had an affair with one Raghavendra Tandel (25) of Toduru, who worked in Seabird naval base in Karwar. She had abandoned the baby as she was not married.

The police said that Ashwini lived with her mother and had no father. They admitted Ashwini to the District Hospital for treatment.
