Bhatkal: Bhatkal rural police nabbed a prisoner with his accomplice in Bhatkal Haneef Abad, on wee hours of Friday. One of the arrested is identified as notorious criminal Kammaradi Haneef Byari (34) who had escaped from Dharwad jail on Thursday evening, while his accomplice is identified as Suneel Methi who was a bike lifter in Dharwad.

Haneef Beary was convicted in several cases of murder, dacoity and looting, and was sentenced for life imprisonment and spent around seven years in different jails of Karnataka. He was brought to Dharwad jail in the year 2008. He escaped Dharwad jail at 3.30pm on Thursday after attacking the guards and Jail wardens.

According to Bhatkal DySP M Narayan, Bhatkal rural police found two persons sleeping in a petrol bunk at Bhatkal Haneef Abad cross NH 17 on Friday at 2.30am. When police asked them for their identity, the duo tried to escape. Police caught Suneel immediately while Haneef tried to attack police with a big stone and sped away on his bike. Later Suneel Methi informed the police about the other person saying that he was Haneef who had escaped from Dharwad jail.

DySP said that at around 3.00am police got a call from Haneef Abad, where Haneef was rounded by some youths in a suspicious manner near a Masjid. Police rushed to the spot and caught Haneef.




The DySP said that Suneel was involved in taking care of Haneef outside the jail while Haneef was planning on his ventures from inside the prison. It is alleged that Haneef had supplied 10 to 15 members to attack JD(S) leader BEML Krishnappa in Neelmangala, Bangalore, who was murdered on 25 July 2012 on NH 4, attacking a group which consisted of of 30 to 35 persons.

Pratap Reddy, IGP (Western Range), declared a prize amount of Rs 20,000 to the police personnel who had helped arrest Haneef, the DySP said. It is learned that Haneef was involved in the murder of Shimoga, Hosahalli gram panchaya President, Venkatesh Hosahalli on 2008, for which he was sentenced for life imprisonment.

Bhatkal DySP M Narayan, CPI Shiv Prasad, Rural PSI Naveen Jogi, Town Prakash Devadiga amongst other police members were involved in the arrest of Haneef Beary in Haneef Abad.
