:Mysore: The Queen's Baton Relay for the Delhi Commonwealth Games today entered Karnataka from Tamil Nadu.

Nilgiri District Commissioner handed over the baton at the border village of Chakkanahalli in Chamarajanagar district this afternoon.

It was received by Karnataka Olympic Association President K Govindaraj and reached the 'City of Palaces', this evening. Tomorrow it would travel to Bangalore.

Sports lovers in large numbers assembled right from the outskirts of the city and enjoyed the day. The baton was carried in the thoroughfares of the city by athletes and other people. Dignitaries, sportspersons, senior officials, people's representatives and students were part in the procession.

Disseminating features of XIXTH commonwealth games, queen's baton relay was received by the District in charge minister S Suresh Kumar in front of famous Mysore Place this evening. A colourful cultural programme was also held on the occasion.

The Queen's Baton was carried from Mysore Palace to Maharaja's Statue by Mayor Sandesh Swamy, Dy Mayor Pushpalatha Jagannath, DC Harsha Gupta, Law Ministers Suresh Kumar and sports Minister Goolihatti Shekar.

The queen's baton was handed over the international boxer C C Machaiah by the Suresh Kumar.

The relay passed through in a five km stretch in the city and was carried by 209 sports persons and dignitaries. The sports persons who carried the baton included Grand Master M S Thejkumar, golfer Rahul Ganapathy, former athlete Seeth Devaiah, veteran footballer N Papanna, tennis player Prahlad Srinath, former National equestrian champ Mariba Shetty and Lohit V URS.

The queen's baton was travelled thousands of kilometres across the country so far. It would stay in Karnataka for seven days and later move to Goa via Karwar.

The Queen's Baton Relay famous KRS reservoir across Cauvery and then to Chamundi Hill.

It should be noted that the relay will reach Uttara Kannada on 6 September with entering Bhatkal.
