Bhatkal: “To eradicate any communal tension one should get to the root cause of the problem. Once this is found then the matter can be solved easily. The root cause of the problem is RSS. We have approached to RSS leaders in this regard. We called a meeting with eminent RSS leader Mr. Kaladka Prabhakar to maintain communal harmony and settle any dispute between two communities, in which the leaders of both the Muslim and Hindu communities had a candid discussion. In this meeting the misunderstanding between two communities were tried to lessen”, said the chairman of the Karnataka State Minority Commission, Mr. Khusru Qureshi. He was speaking to the Press reporters on his visit to Bhatkal town.

Talking to the press reporters, he further said that the coastal belt of Karnataka is becoming the abode of miscreants and the gulf between two communities is increasing day by the day.

“I am working to remove the increasing gap between the two communities by conducting various joint meetings of the two communities and the district administration, for which I am in need of support from media” he added.

Mr. Qureshi further said that with the name of the leaders of the organizations like Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad, many start to think about terror and fear. However, when we meet them and hold meetings with Muslim leaders, several doubts were cleared.

The chairman of the state minority commission further said that there is a great need for removal of the differences on five important agendas including the issues of cow slaughter, conversion (religious), terrorism, “Love Terrorism” and unemployment, which can be settled by tabling the joint discussion of all the communities, on the issues.

When asked about the outcome of the meeting held in Mangalore, he said “We have just initiated the discussion. It is not a Xerox machine, in which just after putting a paper on one side the copies of the k,o v paper will instantly come out. We have to wait and be patient to get the desired result”, he added.

Replying to another question asked by the press reporters, he said that we would frequently pay his visit to Bhatkal town.

Before having met with the press reporters, Mr. Qureshi visited the various organizations of the town and expressed his delight to see the activities. Later, he had a closed-door meeting with the leaders of various organizations and outfits like Bajrang Dal, Hindu Jagran Vedikke etc. in the presence of the police and local administrations. He also had a separate meeting with the leaders of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and finally held a meeting, with the leaders of Muslim community in the presence of police. It is not yet known what he had discussed with the Hindutva leaders. However, during the meeting with the leaders of the Muslim community, several important issues including attacks on the livestock-leaded vehicles on the occasion of Eidul-Azha by miscreants, and driving away of the livestock of the vehicles with the police support and various types of troubles and disturbance created by the miscreant elements to disrupt the communal harmony of the town and the silence by the police on all these activities, in the name of passport enquiry, harassments of members of the community by police officials etc. The community leader alleged the police department having biased and partial treatment with the community members. They alleged that the biased and partial treatment by the police is encouraging the communal forces for the further harassments to oppress the community.

Meanwhile, it was also known that Mr. Khusru Qureshi reprimanded the police department and ordered them to resolve the issues being faced by the community and directed the department to ensure the security of the community. It was known that Bhatkal Dy.SP Dr. Veda Murthi and assistant commissioner Mr. Tarlok Chandra has assured the community leaders to approach their problems. They also told the community leaders that their problems will be resolved.

The minority commission chairman Mr. Khusru Qureshi had arrived in Bhatkal on Wednesday evening. At Circuit House, he received a warm welcome by the president and other office bearers of Majlis-E-Islah-Wa- Tanzeem Bhatkal.
